Quick and Easy Iris Folding System Using Your Cricut Machine

I finally finished the cards that I demonstrated in my iris folding video and could not wait to post them. Click here to see the original post and video.

I love how easy this system is to use and that you can use it with tons of different Cricut images! This image was from Create A Critter.

I used Word to create this sentiment.

I used Once Upon a Princess for this adorable card. I think I might be seriously addicted to Iris folding!

Fab Five Friday! From Yellowstone

Greetings from Yellowstone National Park. Linda asked me to post a different Fab Five today. The five would be from Yellowstone Park so here goes!

This is Clyde. Our Yellowstone lawn bison. Linda named him so I guess we'll keep him.

This is a Yellowstone wolf that was traversing the Yellowstone Lamar Valley. It caused quite a stir as it moved along the highway from about 100 yds away.

The bull elk are busy growing out their horns for the upcoming fall.

This was a badger family that set up residence right next to the road. The baby is about as big as a small cat.

This marmot was having a good scratch on a rock.

We saw some black bear cubs on a log. Mom was nearby at a safe distance from us.

Thanks Linda for letting me have a day on your blog and come back next week for more new and exciting posts from Linda!

Quick and Easy Iris Folding System Using Your Cricut Machine

I recently saw Anna Griffin on HSN and she was demonstrating her new Iris folding kit so I decided to make one using my Cricut. You only need one Iris folding template and you can use it for lots of different Cricut cuts.  You can even make the iris fold part in advance before you make your card. I had so much fun coming up with this system.

In the video below, I demonstrate how to make this card as well as how to use the iris folding template for other Cricut cuts. Also, I demonstrate how to make two additional Cricut cards and how to design the openings. You can use Cricut Craft room, your Gypsy or Design Studio to cut out the openings. In the video, I use my Gypsy. This technique will also work for other cutting machines.

Click here for the link to the template thanks to My Kinda Living! I tried several different templates, but this one worked the best. I have additional instructions on my video.

To get started, here are directions on how to save and size the template.  You can size this to meet your needs but I sized mine to 4 1/8 x 4 1/8.
  1. On the web page “My Kinda’ Living”, Iris Folding Pattern/Template, right-click and copy #3 Square Iris Folding Pattern/Template
  2. Open Microsoft Word. Right-click and paste it in to the Word document.
  3. In Word, go to View menu and click Ruler. There should be a ruler with inches on the top and left side of the document.
  4. Grab the bottom right corner of the graphic and drag it to 4 1/8 inches on the rulers and let go.
  5. Hit print and you are ready to go!
This can also be accomplished in Adobe Photoshop or Elements using the Image/Resize command.

Have a great day!

Update: 6/21/12 Link to template fixed!

Wheel Barrow Centerpiece

I am a huge fan of Patricia Zapata from a Little Hut and fell in love with this adorable wheelbarrow file. Click here to purchase the file and here to see a tutorial on how to put it together.

I am planning to use this as a centerpiece for an upcoming party, but as most of you know I need help with floral displays so I took my empty wheel barrow to Jourdan a very talented floral designer for Knox Flowers in Helena, MT. She worked her magic with silk flowers (real flowers are a little too heavy for this project) and I now have a new centerpiece that I love! Thanks again Jourdan!

Here is a close-up of the wheel barrow which is made entirely out of paper. It is surprisingly sturdy!

Thanks for visiting and stay tuned for a fun new Cricut video. You are going to love this project!

Fab Five Friday

Welcome to Fab Five Friday! For those of you that are new to this blog, every Friday I showcase five blogs, websites or posts that I think you will enjoy.

I fell in love with this onesie card made by Kelly from Lovin’ the Life I Color. For her adorable card she used a file designed by Lori Whitlock. You could also use a Cricut cartridge to design this cute card. There is an adorable onesie card on Cricut Everyday Pop Up Cards cartridge that would be perfect. I love the colors Kelly chose and all her sweet details!

Guess what? My Scrap Chick’s new website is up and running. I am a huge fan of her cutting files and love her freebie Fridays. Be sure to sign up for her newsletter and receive access to a free cutting file every week. You are going to love her brand new site!

For an adorable Father’s Day card that will make you smile, be sure to check out Ally’s post. You will love her blog, Rock Paper Cricut! Scroll down to see an adorable cupcake card and more.

Be sure to visit My Little Shoebox blog to see an adorable “What I Love About You” mini album created by Carol Theng for her husband’s birthday. It is too cute!

I Udderly Forgot Your Birthday!

I love making shaped cards and the Create A Critter Cricut Cartridge makes it so easy! This cartridge is one of my go-to ones for card making!

I used the glue and fold method to make this adorable card. The image is on page 60 and I used all the layers. I wanted additional layers so I cut layer one twice and trimmed it to fit. I just had to have polka dots spots. The bow is from page 62. The fun thing about this card is that you can adjust the size to meet your needs!

Since this is a belated birthday card, I came up with this funny, or at least I thought it was funny, sentiment using Word. Click here to see my video on how to use Word for sentiments and here for the Photoshop version. I added faux stitching and was done.

Thanks for visiting and have a great week. Be sure to stop back Wednesday for an interesting new video. I am reviewing a new craft product from Martha Stewart and you are going to love it.

Funkadelic Birthday Card and a Tip on Cutting Glitter Paper with your Cricut.

I recently purchased the Groovy Time Cricut cartridge and decided to make a quick birthday card for a friend.

I used the glue and fold method to make the card base. To view my video on three different ways to make a shaped card, please click here. I love that it is such an unusual shape!

The image is on page 26 and I used all the layers. The glitter paper is from DCWV Glitter Cardstock stack and is very thick. I love how easy it is to cut this glitter paper with my Cricut E2. I just set my speed to one, pressure 5, blade depth to 6 and then I set my Gypsy to cut it twice. Love it!

Thanks for visiting and have a funkadelic day! My new word for the day…can you tell?
