Fun with Inexpensive Metal Repair Tape

My sister discovered this amazing metal tape when she was making tags for her Steampunk album and I could not wait to share it with you.  The tape is used for heating and air conditioning repair and has a beautiful sheen to it.  This versatile tape can be purchased at most hardware stores and you get 50 yards of tape for around $7.00.

In the video below, I demonstrate several fun ways to use it. You are going to love this tape. One of my favorite techniques involves embossing it with Anna Griffin embossing folders and using alcohol inks. You can even punch it and paint it with acrylic paints. And lots more!!

Thanks for visiting and be sure to stop in tomorrow for a mega giveaway you will not want to miss! Yahoo!!

What a fabulous idea! I love the look of the shiny metal tape - especially with the inks! Please thank your sister for passing along this information - and thank you for passing it along too, Linda!

Thank you Linda. Your videos are great! You have such a nice voice to listen to. I'll have to give this a try.I already have some of the tape on hand from past experiments. I tried to do something with it but it didn't turn out very well. You unveiled the secret, backing it with card stock or paper is brilliant. Thanks to you and your sister for sharing this wonderful technique. xxx-Debbie

atorLove these techniques. I'm thinking it could be used in a masculine way too. Have you tried cutting with the Cricut?

Kals, sorry to say that I have not tried this with either machine. I did not want to damage my blades, but I might try later with an older blade.

HI I've used this technique before, This metal tape is also called plumber's tape. After it's put on the card stock I've cut out flowers on my cricut. I didn't notice any harm to my cricut blade, I then I used my cuttlebug to emboss them, used alcohol inks to blend color on them.....I put them on a card....they looked beautiful.....it's a fun technique!
Thanks,
Pat

Pat, thanks so much for the information! I am very excited to learn that you cut this tape with your Cricut! Yahoo! And to learn that it is also called plumber's tape!

Can you explain why you used a foam ink blending pad rather than alcohol ink felt with your blending tool to apply the alcohol ink? Do you think it works better? I was afraid a lot of the alcohol ink would get 'lost' in the foam.

Linda Kaiser said...

Carol, I do use both methods but prefer the foam. I tend to use the pounce method and the foam works great for me. It doesn't seem to use a lot of ink. Hope this helps and I would love to hear from others as to what they use.

Oh my goodness, Linda, I just had to try this. I knew we had some of this tape left over from a project eons ago, and remember that I couldn't toss the remainder of the roll because the tape was so pretty. I die cut a strip of the tape (with cardstock backing) and embossed it with my Cuttlebug Diamond Plate embossing folder. Then I stained the raised portion with StazOn jet black ink. Love it! I can't wait to try some of the other techniques from your tutorial. Love those Anna Griffin folders, too.

WOW this is an amazing technique I immediately went to my hubby and told him about this tape and he knew of course what it was so he's going to take me to Lowe's this week=end to get it. He thought is was very cool too and that anything Lowe's can be for my crafting (LOL) how cool I usually don't care to shop at Lowe's so he's all for taking me there to get this. Thanks for the awesome idea!!
